A lot of homeowners wonder what they should be doing while their movers are at work packing up their things. There are a few things you can do to make your mover's job easier and your move more efficient. The following are six ways you can help out as your residential movers handle your move.

Make room for them

Your residential movers are going to need a lot of space. You should consider this factor before your movers arrive and prepare accordingly. Prepare a spot in your driveway or in front of your home for your moving company's van. You should also clear any obstructions from doorways that your movers are likely to use while emptying your home.

Keep track of all of your more valuable and fragile items

Your mover wants to be sure that no damage is caused to any of your possessions during the move. You're more knowledgeable about your most valuable and fragile items than your movers are. That's why it's a good idea to keep track of your valuable and fragile things to make sure they're being properly moved and protected from damage as the move progresses.

Make sure that your kids and pets are not getting in the way

If you have kids and/or pets, it's important that you keep them under control and out of the way while your movers are at work. Keeping track of kids and pets isn't just important for making your movers' job easier. It's also important for preventing injuries.

Be available to answer any questions

As the move progresses, your movers might have questions for you about where you want certain items put or if you want to move certain items yourself. Be available for communication so you can answer any questions promptly. This will facilitate a faster and more efficient move.

Consider offering some refreshments

Offering refreshments such as coffee to your movers could be a nice gesture. Not only will your movers appreciate this, but refreshments could also give them a boost of energy to get the job done faster! It's definitely a good idea to at least make some water available for your movers so that they can stay hydrated while working.

Relax

Perhaps one of the best things you can do while your movers are at work is simply to sit back and relax. Movers are supposed to take some of the stress out of moving for you, so let them do it!
